Emre Erdemoğlu is proposing a world where it is still possible to hold each other close; to admit our mistakes, stupidities and ugliness; to be endlessly patient, generous and without prejudice and to accept ourselves and others even in the hardest conditions through “Beni Bağrına Bas”; the designer’s Fall/Winter 20-21 collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul. The designer describes his collection: “My goal was to depict the current condition of human relations as a protest. I have rejected a world without emotions and wanted to show that we need to embrace each other harder.”
The designer has shown hugging human figures throughout the collection with printing and weaving techniques. He added three-dimensional human figures to his collection by interpreting firmly gripping shapes with a graphic language. In this collection, the designer presents heavy lycra and unwashed jeans in the style of 70s for the first time. Furthermore, the signature slim fit patterns of Emre Erdemoğlu leave their place to deformed shapes and forms. He surprises the audience with broad shoulder pads and heavily accessorized looks which are complimented with long leather gloves, geometric knitwear, fanny packs and scarves that reach to the floor.
The collection is bi-polar with both warm and cool colours. The main colours are sky blue and smoked orange; lilac, lemon yellow and fall green tones are playing a supporting role. The star character of the designer’s colour palette is “spoiled white” and the white pieces are a reference to the purity of the collection.
The surprise celebrity of the runway was Murat Dalkılıç who has been wearing the stage costumes of the designer for a long time. Dalkılıç walked the runway with a 70s inspired sky blue suit that has long sleeves on top of short sleeves. The famous singer has greeted the audience with Emre Erdemoğlu and has grabbed attention with his vibrant energy.
