Selcuk Artut’s professional music career has started with being a member of the post avantgarde Rock band Replikas (www.replikas.com). After the release of the debut album “Koledoyuran”, Replikas won recognition by the music critiques quickly and were pointed out to be amongst the best albums of the year. Upcoming albums were put on sale by world wide record companies and entered the charts of various radio stations. The band’s third album Avaz was produced by Wharton Tiers who is known for his work with bands such as: Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Helmet and Dinosaur Jr. Replikas also took part in Fatih Akin’s renowned documentary “Crossing the Bridge”; pieces from their albums have been used in various short and feature-length movies.
In 2016, Selcuk Artut founded an audio-visual performance duo named RAW (www.rawlivecoding.com) which produces works through creative coding and live-coding techniques. Performances are composed of improvisational live coded sonic structures accompanied with pre-programmed interactive visual materials. Performed at various Electronic Music and Media Events in places like Berlin, Tokyo, London, Helsinki, Istanbul, Belgrade, Vienna; RAW invites the audience to immerse into the performance visually with using additional top cameras, and code views projected on large displays. Sonically the audial experience moves into the fields of noise, electronic, techno, minimal and ambient genres with improvisational forms.
He is also an acknowledged sound artist whose artworks have been exhibited at Dystopie Sound Art Festival (Berlin, 2018), Moving Image NY (New York, 2015), Art13 London (London, 2013), ICA London (London, 2012), Art Hong Kong (Hong Kong, 2011), Istanbul Biennale (Istanbul, 2007), and received coverage at Artsy, Creative Applications, CoDesign, Visual Complexity, CNN GO.
